If you’re dealing with the appearance of veins on your face or body, it can be quite upsetting no matter what kind of veins they are. You’ve probably heard the terms “spider veins” and “varicose veins” quite often, but maybe you’ve never really had the time to learn more about each so you can tell them apart. Read on to learn how to tell them apart in quick and easy ways!
Vein Location
The location is one easy way to tell whether the veins are varicose or spider. Usually, if the veins are in your legs, they tend to be varicose. But, this isn’t always true so be sure to check the other characteristics below. If you have veins in your face, they’re likely spider veins.
Vein Size
Vein size is usually the easiest way to tell what type of veins you’re dealing with at a glance. Spider veins are quite small, and even thread-like. Varicose veins are far larger in most cases, often being many times the size of spider veins.
Vein Shape
Vein shape is another easy way to tell varicose veins from spider veins because the names give you a clue. Spider veins were named for their resemblance to spider webs. They can branch out in patterns that look very much like a web, or sometimes like the branches of a tree. On the other hand, varicose veins tend to be knotty and twisted. Varicose veins push out above your skin’s surface while spider veins do not.
